Types Of Lipsticks! – An Easy Guide For You

Give a woman the right lipstick, and she can conquer the world!

According to a study, on average a woman owns 7 lipsticks. Out which she uses 2.6 quite frequently.

So many lipsticks are available in the market and yet sometimes we get messed up in which kind is the right one for us. So to make this task simpler for you, we at StyleFundas, have come up with a list of various kinds of lipsticks available in the market and their purposes.

Have a look at them below. But before that, let us know what is lipstick made of anyway?

Most lipsticks are made from three basic ingredients: wax, oil, and pigment. The pigment is the color. Waxes provide shape and a spreadable texture. Oils such as petrolatum, lanolin, cocoa butter, jojoba, castor, and mineral are added for moisture.

1) Crème Lipstick

Crème lipsticks glide easily over your lips giving it a creamy effect with a hint of gloss. They have more wax and are very moisturizing. They are comfortable to wear and stay on for longer durations.

2) Lip Gloss

The name says it all. Their glossy thick liquid lipstick makes your lip look more supple and healthy. It leaves a shiny finish on your lips. Available in so many lovable shades, it is most common among teenage girls.

3) Sheer Lipstick

Made with very little tint, sheer lipstick gives a natural look to your lips and can be very moisturizing. They can be worn if you want to have a subtle look. This lipstick has a higher content of oil and is perfect for your no-makeup days.

4) Stain/ Tint Lipstick

Stain lipsticks are not the regular types. When applied, they are absorbed by the outermost layer of your skin to give a very natural finish. They give it a more long-lasting property due to the same reason.

5) Matte Lipstick

Matte lipsticks are smooth and sultry. They give a long-lasting finish and look sophisticated. They don’t have any glossy properties and have a velvety finish, free of shimmer. They are in a uniform color which makes them look bold and are the focus of attention.

6) Liquid Matte Lipstick

Liquid matte lipstick, despite their glossy appearance, gives a velvety finish and are smudge-proof. They don’t smudge off easily after eating or drinking something. They apply as a liquid due to the high content of oil and polymers. When they dry out, they show an opaque and chalky finish.

7) Lip Balm Tints

Tinted lip balms give out a very natural finish to your lips and are light. They are best to be worn on the days when you feel like not-so-heavy-lip-layering on your lips. They moisturize dry lips too and therefore they give color and protection as well.

8) Matte Balms

They give out a natural look and subtly even out the color of your lips. They are a great way to get your lips some color without a glossy, shiny look. So when going for a no-makeup look, these are best for a casual, shine-free look.

9) Lip Liner

Lip liner which is used to outline the lip to get a clear finish for your lipstick’s outline can also be used to fill the inner lips!! Say what? That’s right. You can use it as lipstick and no one will even know that. Its effect is just the same as a crème lipstick.

The History Of Lipstick:

According to a source, “Based on cosmetic cases found at archaeological sites dating back to 5,000 years ago, it’s thought that Ancient Sumerians were the first to wear lipstick. These ancient cosmetics were made by mixing crushed gemstones with oils and waxes. Ancient Egyptians also wore red lipstick as an indicator of social status.”
