How Technology Has Changed Fashion

How Technology Has Changed Fashion

We all know that technology has been doing wonders for us lazy humans, in every corner of life technology is involved and making things easy and convenient for us. They say that necessity is the mother of invention but as the time is passing these addictive inventions are becoming the mother of everything. The influence of technology in every sector of life has taken the world by storm and has changed it completely. Same thing happened with fashion, technology has entirely changed fashion as we know it. Everything from AI designers to customisation of clothes, to the ultimate product, fashion is not going to be the same anymore.

AI Designers

If someone would have said that in future there will be computers and programs that will create designs and style, we would have laughed at him. How the tables have turned, that guy must be laughing at us now. Technology has taken fashion to the doorstep of AI designing which means that technology is on the verge of replacing human designers. With the help of high tech algorithms and sophisticated programs, computers will be able to decide whether a certain design is “stylish” or not.

Furthermore, a German fashion platform has designed a program that uses people’s color, pattern, style preferences and other aesthetics to create designs that are guaranteed to be liked by the majority of people. Giants like Google and Amazon are also working on this concept and have already made it functional. However, at this moment AI is unable to completely replace human designers but technology has the potential to change designing into human less designing.

Customisation at Low Cost

The use of high tech machinery and smart equipment fashion makers have the luxury to offer complete customisation of fashion products to customers and that too at insanely low prices. Previously fashion was all about economies of scale and the only way to cut cost is to produce items in enormous numbers. Bigger brands with more resources used to bully smaller brands and enjoy monopoly. However, technology came to the rescue for small brands and made producing small amounts of clothes while keeping the burden off their pockets.

Now customisation is common due to the presence of high tech machinery that happens to be low in cost. Brands are able to produce revenues by producing one customised item for one individual at a time. Customisation and personalisation is the new need of fashion.

People like to get things manufactured especially for them and according to them. Customisation has given customers the opportunity to get their products personalised such as personalised workwear, personalised t-shirts, personalised gifts and whatnot.

Setting Fashion Trends

Predicting fashion trends on time and getting things made before time is something you need to be an expert in, if your goal is to be a giant in the industry. This prediction of upcoming trends is a rather difficult task because trends tend to keep changing due to the influence of numerous factors.

To solve this puzzle Tommy Hilfiger, a renowned clothing brand shook hands with IBM into a project called “Reimagine Retail”. The purpose of this high tech project is to use specifically designed algorithms to decipher real time fashion trends and from all this precise data designers at Tommy Hilfiger are able to make informed and accurate decisions for their next offerings and products.

Fast Fashion

Predicting fashion trends on time is not enough for competing brands because as the industry is growing it is crucial for brands to create fashion on time. Predicting fashion trends is just the initial phase; the final phase is to have it designed and manufactured for the people which consequently lead sales. Technology has heavily impacted this area as well.

A new concept of fast fashion is the burning question. Brands have been adopting high tech technology to produce fast fashion products. These products are generally not long lasting and lack durability but comparatively cheaper in prices.

Fast fashion products fulfil the need of fashion superbly and this is what some people desire to look fashionable when it is trendy and when the trend changes they don’t have to cling to the previously trendy clothes just because they had paid a hefty amount for those.

Bigger names like Zara, Top Shop, Forever 21 and H&M have been into this like anything and they all have been racing to get the maximum of fast fashion. The moment they sense a trend is arriving they start building their processes with speed and agility.

Smooth and Smart Supply Chain

In today’s neck to neck competition, the fight between two firms is not fought by products but by supply chains. The emergence of technology has made the supply chain more smooth than before and amazingly rapid because this is one department which doesn’t afford any delays.

Super smart programs and software are developed to bring the suppliers together and the process which took longer time to create the final product is shortened substantially.

Suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers and even retailers are closely connected with each other in a smartly integrated system so that it takes less time for raw material to become the final product and that too with no errors.
